Don’t forget, we also have web page links from the Learning Resources page on our school website. If a short and clear explanation about maths language or operations is what you are looking for

Maths Chase

https://www.mathschase.com/

Maths Chase aims to make maths learning more fun for everyone. They have found that our simple game really helps children learn their times tables. The games help children learn by repetition and also increase their speed gradually as they become more skilled. Maths Chase allows you to increase the speed you need to answer questions as you become more confident in a fun and engaging way.

BBC Bitesize

has some short videos which may be helpful. These cover many areas of maths language and operations.

Maths at school today is often very different from the teaching that was done even a few years ago, so we will follow up our ideas at home leaflets with information about how the basic operations of addition, subtraction, division and multiplication are now taught. This will be provided in a number of ways. Reception parents are the first group to have been invited to an information evening about early maths learning. This will be followed up with a chance to see children being taught in small groups and there will be an opportunity to chat with class teachers afterwards. If this is successful, we intend to develop the process across the school.

We have several other ideas in the pipeline and will keep you informed, but meanwhile if you have any ideas yourself about how we can help parents with supporting maths at home, do let us know.

In school we have had a lot of changes to how we teach Maths. Some of the ideas are in these videos by Jo Boaler. They talk about everyone being able to do Maths and that having a positive mindset is really important. So one part of this is that it is good for us to struggle and that our brain develops and makes connections when we do struggle. They are well worth a look. The videos can be found by following the links. You will have to register though to watch them. This is a simple process so do not worry. There is also lots of information for parents on this website.
